"Les Voile" is certainly one of Saint-Tropez?s greatest events. This annual regatta began during September of 1981. One day two boats called ?Pride? and ?Ikra? challenged each other to a fun race. The start of the coastal course was at Saint-Tropez?s Tour du Portalet and the finish at Club 55's private beach at Pampelonne bay where Patrice de Colmont presented an improvised ?Club 55 Cup? to the winner. More friends joined in the challenge the next year and the event was born. Patrice de Colmont created the famous ?Nioulargue? in the family spirit. Now each year for a week in late September into early October nearly 300 sail boats join together to make an incredible sight as they race in Les Voiles des Saint-Tropez. This classic wooden boat is heading into port after a full day of sailing. The late afternoon sun adds drama to the sky and sails.
