„Cliffs And Layers At Dakota Ridge“

from the gallery of John Bailey
Description:

This image shows the layer upon layer in this cliff at Dakota Ridge, Colorado. Many of the individual layers may well be embedded with footprints from the dinosaurs that roamed the area. This area was once an ocean beach with a layer of sand over mud. As dinosaurs ranged through here their footprints were embedded in the mud and preserved and later covered. Erosion and construction have uncovered many sections of footprints. There nhave also been many productive dinosaur digs conducted in this area. Dinosaur Ridge is part of the Morrison Fossil Area National Natural Landmark located in Morrison, Colorado, just west of Denver.
The Dinosaur Ridge area is one of the world's most famous dinosaur fossil localities. In 1877, some of the best-known dinosaurs were found here, including Apatosaurus, Diplodocus, Stegosaurus, and Allosaurus.
