Colonne de Juillet and Opera de Paris Bastille. The 170 ft bronze column is topped by a staute of the "Genius of Liberty". The column is a memorial to those who died in the steet fighting during the overthrow of the monarchy in July 1830. The monument was designed by Jean-Antoine Alavoine. The Opera de Paris Bastille is the modern home of the Opéra National de Paris, replacing Opera Garnier. Designed by Carlos Ott, and opened in 1989.
