Fine art landscape image of Lake Abert in southern Oregon's high desert. This photographic image was captured on a steamy August afternoon in 2011, when the temperature was well over 100 degrees Fahrenheit. Lake Abert is a remnant of Pleistocene Lake Chewaucan . Its waters are too alkaline to support fish but it is teeming with brine shrimp, an important component of a food chain that supports many varieties of shore birds. The primeval aura that cloaks the lake is magical and mystical in all seasons.
