Oaks are strong, beautiful trees, and I captured this Bur Oak just as the spring flowers and leaves were emerging. This species grows on the midwestern prairies of North America, and I specifically photographed it in the USA's state of Michigan. Bur Oaks have thick bark and are adapted to prairie fires, so they can survive where weaker, thinner-barked species would perish. They usually grow in the open, and form wonderful, wide-spreading crowns.
