Lassen Volcanic National Park, California, USA. Painted Dunes were formed by the flowing lava after the volcano eruption. Those flows, also called Fantastic Lava Beds, have beautiful and unusually bright color, different from grey volcanic dust. Geologists think that this phenomenon is due to the presence of anomalous minerals that were picked up from wall rocks by the lava as it moved toward the surface.
