Sandown Pier at Sandown, Isle of Wight, England. This very popular pier was first opened to the public in 1879. The pier, which has landing stages and a pavilion housing a range of activities, is 265 metres (869ft) long. It has undergone many changes, including major structural improvements in 1968 and substantial repairs after severe fire damage in 1989.
