A snow drift, taller than a truck, had lain across this section of road in the Lahaul Valley, in the Himalayan state Himachal Pradesh in northern India. A path has been cleared through the snow bank now, so that the remote region of Spiti can be accessed once again . . . for now. From November to April this region gets around two metres of snow, and the Spiti Valley is cut off from the world.
