„Taktsang, Paro valley, Bhutan (Paul Harris)“

Picture ID: ba499fc
Description:

Bhutan, Paro valley, Taktsang. Literally meaning Tiger's nest or lair; Taktsang was built around the cave in which Guru Padmasambava meditated in the eight century. It clings impossibly to a rock face 800 meters above the Paro valley. It is believed that Guru Rimpoche landed on this spot in a miraculous manner, flying on the back of a tigress. The saga of its building, the transportation of statues and religious artifacts and the lives of the holy men and women who have lived there are rich material from the most sacred of Bhutanese religious texts. All Bhutanese try to make a pilgrimage to Taktsang at least once in their lifetimes
