Before we are saved we are trapped behind bars in a prison of sin and if we don't take what Jesus did for us on the cross to pay for our sin we have the pay the consequences for our own sin and be punished in hell. The good news is that Jesus paid our price for our eternal sin and all the punishments went on him on the cross because we loved us dearly. so if we go to him and repent turn away from our sin he will fogive us our sin and give us the holy spirit and we will be sealed forever and go to heaven not because what we have done to earn it but because of what he did for us.
