Hadrian's Wall, Northumberland was ordered to be built by the Emperor Hadrian in 122AD in an attempt to reduce the military budget and to keep rebellious neighbours at bay. Dividing the Roman Empire in the south and the rebels in the north, it took over six years to build (David Else)
