From São Paulo, Brasil, I've been around since 1981. It took me about a quarter of a century to get a journalism degree and in the mean while I have played musical instruments, lived abroad, practiced aikido, worked as a video editor, motion designer and assistant director for institutional videos. Last year I started exchanging photographs for pennies again. | From worldwide conceptual fashion to traditional societies concerns, I am currently interested in questions and answers on cultural coexistence during globalization era.
“As an art dealer I am always on the look out for a sense of urgency - a moral purpose even - in the paintings I examine. In Daniel's work I find these qualities in abundance. Each image of a natural event becomes a wonder through his lens; we are quietly but consistently reminded how fragile, how exquisitely precious, is our world. The choice of subject and viewpoint stops us in our tracks and sometimes absorbs us completely: The sky is brought up to our face, the eye of a horse reveals an endless distance. Daniel's message is hinted at through through an intense observation of his subject; but he is not didactic and the imagery is beautiful to behold. We are reminded now of a line of Wordsworth, now of a drawing by Ruskin or Turner. Daniel has a great gift with which to enthrall us.” Andrew Wyld, Managing Director, W.S. Fine Art, London
Photography is an exchange between a subject and an observer. In my case my subject is wildlife, nature, and in these portraits there is a dialogue between me, the animal and the environment I am photographing. My objective is to capture a photographic moment with the intensity felt at the instant the shutter opened. I create a composition in my mind and then shoot until I feel I have reached my objective. It is later, when I look at the images, that I am often surprised and amazed at the results. The vast majority of details are unnoticed when the picture is taken. It is only later that the richness of the moment is revealed. This is where my intuitive response to that moment comes to fruition.
Born in Quebec, Canada, I have lived in Buenos Aires, New York, Los Angeles, Portland Oregon, Barcelona, Montreal, London and Cannes. Explorer, photographer and storyteller, I follow in the footsteps of my childhood heros, David Attenborough, Jim Fowler & Jacques Cousteau, traveling Earth’s remote places. My lifelong passion for adventure and nature, and my commitment to inspire change and improving lives have led me to create The Wild Image Project, with for mission to motivate others and alter their perspective on global issues by aesthetically presenting information and ideas that stimulate engagement, involvement and transformation.
For their Bicentennial anniversary, the Government of Argentina invited me to return to their country and capture on film its wildlife. The results were presented in a major exhibition at the Consulate General in New York city in October 2010.
My photographs were auctioned in March 2011 at the Explorers Club’s Annual Dinner at the Waldorf Astoria.
In 2009, I was named North American Champion by Aquapac. I am also a Planet Explore Visionary (a The North Face initiative that promotes the outdoors), a Kokatat Ambassador and a Wend magazine Ambassador. My work has been published through Wend magazine, World Reviewer, Matador Travel and my adventures have been covered by Daily Inspiration, Elephant Journal, Mocoloco, Been Seen, Photography Served, Sutter Sisters, Planet Green, Treehugger, and several other online outdoor outlets.
Since 2010, I am a member of the Explorers Club in New York and the Royal Geographical Society in London.
In 2011, I was made an ETE (Education Through Exploration) Ambassador. ETE will be an important education partner in the coming expedition.
I am currently planning a 6-year around-the-world sailing expedition called “The Extreme Islands Expedition”.
“A gifted photographer possessing a singular sensitivity towards the object/objects of his scrutiny, Daniel conveys such a story through his camera lens. Lyrical single subject evocations or richly patterned mosaic-like impressions, all find their unique place within his "world"--a world inhabited by images of animal and human form, flora and fauna, urban and idyllic, often layered and co-existing within a range of visual possibilities.” Vivian Bullaudy, Director, Hollis Taggart Galleries

My work originates from a continuous observation of life.
Its style is a complete mix of everything that I have seen, heard or experienced, and is constantly shifting and evolving in complexity and attitude. World cultures, architecture and contemporary art scene offer me a cultural database, extreme and diverse in its nature.
Ok, so I figured- the first thing here should be a bit about me so here it is:
Photography is one of many artforms which are of interest to me . My initial interest in art started with drawing and painting ever since childhood which I spent in culturally rich Poland. My first 2 years of college were spent at Vincennes University exploring techniques of drawing, painting and design. A serious interest in photography was sparked with two photography classes I took at VU. That interest was further developed at Herron and expanded into digital imaging, which blossomed into the passion it is today. I like to draw on the inspiration of the traditional mediums like oils and watercolors of the master painters and blending them with the unlimited freedom of the digital medium. I admire painters such as Claude Monet, Vincent Van Gogh, Georgia O'Keeffe and Rembrandt among others. My photographic muses are Maplethorpe, Josef Sudak, Imogen Cunningham, surrealist Jerry Ulesmann and a great landscape photographer and a friend- Ron Leonetti (www.ronleonettiphotography.com)
Some past exhibits in Indianapolis include "Travel Indiana" competition and exhibit at the Indiana Historical Society, "Orchard In Bloom" art and garden fair, Indiana Festival at Conner Prairie and ORANJE art and music show.
In the past I presented my work at a gallery exhibit at Broad Strokes Photo Gallery, which featured my large flower images printed on canvas. My select Indianapolis images were released as postcards by Indiana GeoGraphics. My work is also present at Indiana State Museum and Indiana Convention and Visitors Association is continually pleased with the Indianapolis and Indiana images. Nationally my work has been featured by Avanti Cards and also in Popular Photography magazine. In 2003 one of the projects included working with WISH TV 8 on new images for their news set.
I am not a category. I am not a thing — a noun. I seem to be a verb, an evolutionary process — an integral function of Universe.
