Manifesto
I have fallen in love with art because it reminds me that there is no bottom to my soul. It is the job of the artist to truly see the world around them when others are blind to its intricate complexities. Most people nowadays are engrossed in a manufactured reality and fail to appreciate the aspects of life that artists never take for granted. I have a passion for observing nature, being mindful of my own thoughts and emotions, and conceptualizing my ideas into works of art. I spent a weekend at Haystack Mountain School of Crafts and two weeks in Colorado Springs, Colorado as a participant in a drawing and painting intensive called the Marie Walsh Sharpe Art Foundation Summer Seminar. Both of these experiences changed my perception of reality and inspired me to pursue a career in art.
I began to experiment with ways that I could turn my passion into a career by printing up T-Shirts, fine art prints, and posters of my original drawings and paintings. I am currently selling my art at Metropolitan Soul in downtown Bangor. I have been commissioned to make original paintings, as well as tattoo designs specific to my customer’s tastes and preferences.
I work in a variety of media including graphite, charcoal, pen, marker, watercolor, oil, pastel, and acrylic paint. My drawing style is very graphic, and ranges from realism to surrealism while my painting style is impressionistic with the occasional realistic study. A lot of my work depicts people, and I view proportion as the pivotal aspect of any portrait or figure drawing. My inspirations include the work of M.C. Escher, Salvador Dali, and Paul Cézanne. I often derive inspiration for my surrealist works through my dreams. Since visual art is the purest form of communication, I believe that portraying complex concepts within my art can help to expand peoples minds so that more people can see as an artist does.
