Caroline Derselle.

Casiegraphics is the artist name of Stefanie Haslberger.
Casie takes much inspiration from nature, the animal kingdom and marine life and drawing such is and always has been her passion. Typically armed with a camera, Casie can often be seen roaming around numerous zoos and aquariums indulging in her passion of photography. By doing this Casie aims to capture and hi-light the natural beauty and pure essence of life in each species (especially the tropical and sweet-water fishes of Asia) which she can later echo in her art. Casie's grandfather who was part of the after war informal art movement in the 40's and 50's in Germany played an instrumental role in her life. The distinct drippy and colourful experimental abstractism of his work is something which Casie has strived to sustain in her own art. Her graphic elements and use of bright colour, drips and bubble style are a result of many years spent experimenting with spray techniques and colour combinations in the graffiti scene. The distinct linear style and papercut technique was specifically developed whilst studying for her degree and this progression can be seen in her publication 'Winged Words' which was an illustrated collection of creature quotations attempting to exhibit the benefits of vegetarianism whilst also attempting to make a broader statement about morality and the treatment of animals by humans. Since her move to Berlin, Casie has moved away from papercut and now works mainly with acrylic, markers, ink, spray cans, canvas and wood. Nothing challenges Casie more than taking an ordinary object and customising it with her artwork transforming it and thus giving it new meaning.
Casiegraphics ultimate aim is to create works of art that depict the realism of the animal kingdom, marine life and their surrounding habitats in a happy, colourful, uplifting and fanciful way whilst still attempting to maintain an urban feel.
For me is photography a means of communication: a possibility to engage with my world, to closely approach it at the distance, to newly discover it in and through a frame - to focus; to communicate my perception, to take perspectives and convey them - to transport the "Augenblick"; to choose and arrange, without judging that which becomes visible.

I’m a 20-year-old French-Canadian, self-taught artist. I was born in India and traveled extensively throughout Asia in my youth, which left a lasting impression on me and my work. The diversity of artistic output I encountered through my travels convinced me that the creative impulse is international, indestructible and fantastically infectious. Since I began creating at 12, I’ve moved from comics to portraiture to balloon sculpture to abstract and finally surreal painting. I enjoy experimenting widely with a range of media and pushing the boundaries of painting by incorporating sculpture and tactile elements with my works.
I too am interested in exploring contemporary subjects through a surrealist vocabulary, creatively channeling my shifting perception of life and the events and emotions which fill it. Some themes addressed in my work are the body, the machine, magic, music and pop culture. These take form in phantasmagorical dreamscapes combining vivid color, intense detail and grand settings. They are sometimes disturbing or darkly humorous but also thought-provoking, subtly presenting alternate viewpoints to complex sociological issues.
I am currently studying for the Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting & Drawing at Concordia.
I am interested in connecting with other artists, models, photographers and curators to collaborate with on creative projects. I also take commissions for portraits, murals, paintings, and other artworks. The works in my portfolio are also largely available for sale. Please inquire as to availability and pricing information. I hope you can find in my gallery of strange and colorful compositions something beautiful to enjoy.

I paint stories and for the substance of my narratives, I draw on my life experience as well as from those around me. I love intertwining tension with dramatic devices such as satire, paradox, irony, and suspense. The basic ingredients for the making of a great novel, play or movie also make for an excellent painting. I am not a realist, so it is not important to me to have my paintings look like a photograph, the essence of a person is good enough; what is important to me, is the story.
I hope you enjoy your journey through my galleries--I am sure you'll find something you must have!
Pegeen's Story
I was born in New York City and raised in New Jersey--sort of. Although my parents grew up in NYC, my father was adamant about raising his children in a house with a yard and a pool. My mother went along with the fantasy, but for her the reality was a different story. A loquacious New Yorker who didn’t drive, she was stuck in the middle of nowhere with two children under the age of five. She quickly hated the suburbs and came up with a compromise.
Every other morning she packed up my sister and me, and we joined the ranks of commuters climbing aboard the bus for a forty-five minute ride to the city and our busy day of socializing with family and friends. My father had the illusion his family was enjoying a country life, and my mother was happier when my father came home. It worked beautifully, until my father noticed the expense and insisted it stop.
But my mother was as stubborn as she was clever and set into motion a new creative plan that I marvel at to this day. She would scan the New York Post’s obituaries each morning, pick a deceased person and fabricate a fictitious friendship. Paying her final respects to a friend was a duty--not an option. As a good Irish Catholic woman, she had to help the family through this difficult time. There were times people she knew were dropping dead like crazy!
My family ignited the creative spark in me. My mother and her family laid the foundation for the appreciation of a good story. Every week, relatives and other colorful characters gathered at my grandparents’ apartment, laughing, singing and story telling. My father’s two sisters were both painters and showered me with art books and color by number painting sets as birthday and Christmas gifts.
In addition, my parents built a playroom in the garage and filled it with toys and art supplies. Although I shared it with my sister Nancy and, then three more siblings, I considered this my art studio, my sanctuary. When we were not in the city, I would spend hours creating: making drawings and paintings, once making a very convincing removable papier-mâché cast for a pretend broken arm, followed by a disastrous Plaster of Paris leg cast that began cutting off the circulation. No, Dad was not enthusiastic about art that day! Expletives were flying as he tried getting that cast off my leg.
At first, my family did not understand my decision to attend Kean University in Union, New Jersey for a Bachelor of Arts degree in Theatre Arts, but it made perfect sense. Theatre married art and drama within a strong social structure that I found very fulfilling. I worked for 15 years as a lighting designer, stagehand and occasionally, an actor. However, if you are not willing to live an itinerant life-style, you are limiting your options and success. Eventually, I chose to settle down in a city. Seattle was my choice and where I began exploring the fine arts again.
