Art/Craft by Beccy Ridsdel
Autopsies performed on humans and animals is nothing unsual, but on fine china? British artist Beccy Ridsdel performes in her project “Art/Craft”, originally an installation set up as an interrupted laboratory experiment, autopsies on various bone china, e.g. plates, mugs etc.
Beccy Ridsdel about her project “Art/Craft”:
“The installation takes the form of an observation of a surgical experiment in progress. The ‘surgeon’ is dissecting the craft object to see what is within. He finds craft through and through. He tries the experiment again and again, piling up the dissected work, hoping to see something different but it is always the same.”
