Giuseppe Maria Galasso

I am a free lance outdoor photographer based in Avellino, in the southern part of Italy.

My main activity is based on travel reportages and landscape photos, but I also shoot interiors and architecture photos for AirBnB and I’ve covered several events in my career.

Photos On The Road is my brand.

My website, is www.photosontheroad.eu/phojoomla: there you can find my best photos (at least in my opinion!) and a collection of travel reportages and press articles (in Italian). You’ll also find a link to my blog where I share experiences about my travels and some technical tip. This is also in Italian.

I have showed my works mostly in Italy during last years, but also in the USA. This is a list of my major exhibitions:

“And even not a night – Arctic in summer”, with photos shot in Greenland and Iceland (2009).
Tanzania, (2010).
Ammassalik – the hidden side of Greenland, a collective exhibition, Courmayeur (AO), Museo Duca degli Abruzzi, 24/12/2011 – 30/04/2012.

"A picture is worth a thousand words"

And truly photography seems to me the best way to convey my impressions of visited places.
My favorite subjects are landscapes, nature, architecture and street.

Once I found an interesting subject I try to photograph it in a realistic and ordered way, returning several times to the same location in search of better light and inspiration.
Also in photo editing I try not to modify the original photo. Most of the time I just adjust contrast, color and sharpness.

Based in Switzerland, I spend much of the year in southern Italy, where I find my main sources of inspiration.

A characteristic corner of Martina Franca old town.

Martina Franca is a town and comune in the province of Taranto, Apulia (Puglia), Italy. It is the second most populated city of the province after Taranto. Since 1975, the town has hosted the annual summer opera festival, the Festival della Valle d'Itria.
The town has a particularly beautiful "old city" surrounded by stone walls with prominent Baroque gates leading to piazzas and narrow, winding streets. Piazza di Roma is the largest open space in the old city, with a greenspace in the center of a largely triangular grass pattern, facing the 17th century Palazzo Ducale.

The so-called "Old Town" is Ostuni's citadel built on top of a hill and still fortified by the ancient walls. Ostuni is regarded as an architectural jewel, and is commonly referred to as "the White Town" ("La Città Bianca", in Italian) for its white walls and its typically white-painted architecture.

The Cathedral is an impressive religious building constructed in the second half of the fifteenth century in Gothic style, accessible from Via Cattedrale just off Piazza della Libertà and located at the highest point of the White City.
The current architectural layout is the result of renovations between 1469-1495, when the old Romanesque church was expanded in an attempt to repair the damages of the 1456 earthquake that shook the entire Salento region. Reconstruction was completed thanks to the people of Ostuni who footed the entire bill.
The main façade, divided in three portals ending with the ogive arch, is suffocated by the overly close old seminary that occupies most of the square and partially overshadows the magnificent lines and decorations on the façade so that you can only admire the grandeur and beauty by nearing the stone bridge.
