„Allan Ramsay Statue“

from the gallery of David Pringle

This statue of poet Allan Ramsay (1685 -1758) was completed in the 1860s by Sir John Steell and is situated in West Princes Street Gardens in Edinburgh. The ten-foot high Carrara marble statue shows him wearing a night-cap rather than a wig, an allusion to the fact he had been a wig-maker as a young man. The statue has Edinburgh Castle as its backdrop.
