„Broken pattern (Eminönü)“

from the gallery of Marjolein Katsma

Part of my "The joys of waiting for the ferry" collection, shot in Istanbul, October 2011.

It’s actually hard to avoid rust around ferry docks, and I happen to have a liking for heavy metal, but I found this platform at the Haliç Hatt? ?skelesi (Golden Horn Line Ferry Dock) in Eminönü really curious: the rust here seems to be blowing bubbles inside the depressions of the anti skid pattern, resulting in a broken pattern with raised metal bubbles worn to a shine because they get actually higher than the anti skid ridges.
