The drawing depicts a wage-earning slave selling fruits and cakes at a narrow alley called 'do Ouvidor' (Ombudsman's) located in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The slave woman smokes a pipe and sells something to a little boy. By the German artist Bernhard Wiegandt (1851-1918), 1879.
