„Grizzly Bear Staring Back“

from the gallery of Lee Rentz

While hiking in predawn light in Mount Assiniboine Provincial Park in the Canadian Rocky Mountains, we were startled to come within 15 meters of a Grizzly Bear cub. Then we saw a second cub and their mother, and all crossed the trail where we had just been. They continued on toward a nearby lake, and started digging for ground squirrels. I took this photograph when the mother bear briefly stared back at us with fierce eyes.
