The Mavora Lakes (North and South Mavora Lake) can be reached via c 40 km unsealed road off the main highway from Queenstown to Te Anau. The location is a popular destination for campers, and was used as a filming location for the scenes at the very end of "The Fellowship of the Ring" - the Orc battle, and the breaking of the Fellowship.
These photos were taken on a visit in mid autumn 2007. The sunrises at Mavora are particularly spectacular: the lakes are situated between two mountain ranges, so you can literally watch the sunlight wander down from the highest peaks, until it reaches the campground about an hour or so after sunrise.

Die Mavora-Seen (Nord-Mavorasee und Süd-Mavorasee) kann man über eine c 40 km Fahrt auf ungeplasterter Strasse erreichen, die von der Route von Queenstown nach Te Anau abzweigt. Es gibt dort einen populären Campingplatz. North Mavora Lake diente als Drehort für die Szenen am Ende von "Herr der Ringe: Die Gefährten" - der Kampf mit den Orks, und das Auseinanderbrechen der Gesellschaft.
Diese Photos entstanden im Herbst 2007. Der Sonnenaufgang in Mavora ist besonders spektakulär: Die Seen liegen eingebettet zwischen zwei Bergketten, und man kann das Sonnenlicht die Berghänge herunterwandern sehen, bis es etwa eine Stunde nach Sonnenaufgang den Zeltplatz erreicht.
