„Ponte Romana crossing the River Arade, Silves, Algarve, Portugal. “

from the gallery of Louise Heusinkveld

Although it is known as the Roman Bridge, it is believed that only the foundations of the Ponte Romana may date back to the Romans, the remainder of the bridge in the picturesque Algarve village of Silves is medieval. The bridge is made up of five round arches separated by piers.
