„Roman Wall Country“

from the gallery of David Pringle

An early morning view looking east along the line of Hadrian’s Wall in Northumberland. The photograph was taken just after sunrise and shows the view looking towards Steel Rigg, with Peel Crags and Crag Lough in the distance. Hadrian's Wall, also called the Roman Wall, was a defensive fortification in the Roman province of Britannia, begun in 122 AD during the reign of the emperor Hadrian. It ran from the banks of the River Tyne near the North Sea to the Solway Firth on the Irish Sea.
