Description:
Just a typical Indian wall: not-quite-perfect brickwork, a clothesline under the slightly overhanging roof (not providing much shadow here), a saree hanging out to dry.
There are endless variations to be found of such a wall-clothesline-washing combination, and you’ll see more in this series. This was my very first shot, taken in Mamallapuram (Tamil Nadu) – I was not yet aware just how exemplary it was.
In India, with its many languages, there are also many different names for this simple but beautiful garment, but most are at least similar (see Wikipedia 'Sari' for more details):
sari, saree, sha?i, s?r?, s???, s?ri, s?ddhi, s???, s?re, k?pa?, pu?avai, c?re, c?ra.
In English it is commonly written as sari or saree.
