Birger Rehse
I'm a Collagist. My ideas are my impulsion. My handmade analog collages are inspired by Surrealism, Dadaism, Impressionism and Pop-Art.
With every creation of a collage I go on a journey through my inner world. I let myself drift away in my imagination, feelings, perceptions, thoughts, dreams, passions, experiences, reflections and my philosophy. In my collages I tell stories and deal with topics that move me.
I create collages through the use of an uncontrolled creation process, this means the spontaneous selection and combination of image elements, in which I switch off logic and reason (automatism). Associations, feelings and thoughts that arise during the creation process should flow unfiltered into the collage.
I work exclusively analog with paper, scissors and glue and without editing on the computer. Finding, selecting, sorting, cutting, designing and gluing material is meditation for me.
I want to fascinate the viewer with my collages, open up new perspectives, trigger feelings or stimulate thought. Colors and shapes, surreal and real, abstract and concrete, philosophy and psychology merge in my collages.
I was born in Hamburg (Germany) in 1975 and live with my family in Berlin (Germany) since 2012. In addition to my artistic work, I work in an advertising agency.
