Completing his undergraduate studies as a Fine Arts major at Baylor University in 1963, followed by a brief interim of studio work in Houston, he received a BFA with Honors on a full scholarship from the Art Center College of Design at Los Angeles in 1967. His early professional career was spent in Detroit and Chicago studios.

He began freelancing in 1969, moving his family to Weston, CT in 1977 to be near his New York clients. Working from his studio there, his paintings and drawings continued to be commissioned by numerous Fortune 500 corporations, publishers, advertising and government agencies, as well as, by international clients and private collectors. He currently lives and works in Wilton, CT.

Museums such as the Basketball and Baseball Halls of Fame and the Richmond, VA Vintage Aircraft Collection have collected his paintings for display.

His paintings are also part of such notable collections as those of the United States Marine Corps and the Library of Congress. Known also for his collages, four were selected for permanent Bicentennial Collection of the Library of Congress in 1976. Other special commemorative commissions such as for the Statue of Liberty Celebration in 1986 and a series for the Desert Storm Victory Celebration, as designated by President Geoge H. W. Bush for July 4, 1991, have further established his reputation for creating exciting art depicting patriotic themes. The summer of 2003 saw the release of a series of oils depicting all 5 military services, remembering the heroes of the Korean Conflict on its 50th anniversary.

A 20 year member of the New York Society of Illustrators, he garnered sundry awards for his work since 1975 by his peers from Chicago, New York & Los Angeles. In 1983 The Hollywood Reporter honored his work with the top Hollywood Key Art Award for Television for his creation of the poster for ABC Television's production of Herman Wouk's 'The Winds of War'.

Mr. Hamrick was exclusively represented globally from New York for 18 years by Mendola Artists Ltd, a major artists' representation agency. For the decade between 1987 and 1997, rights to many of his images were exclusively marketed around the globe by The Image Bank in New York. Between commissioned assignments, he increasingly is in demand for portrait work. A significant portion of Mr. Hamrick's illustration career has been devoted to portraiture in illustration assignments. Numerous celebrities, US Presidents, actors, news and television personalities, as well as corporate executives, have been the subject of his distinctive painting style.

Mr. Hamrick continues to create unique visual imagery by commission for private and commercial clients as he enters a fifth decade since his first paid assignment as a high school senior.... over 3500 images and counting!
