Oliver Wood

Oliver Wood

I’m very interested in beguiling subject matter, the feeling of mystique or vague unfamiliarity in the commonplace. I live in an environment that is rich with a sense of moody oddness and curiosity, characterised by hidden secret places, hills, woodlands and plains all intermingling with one another in a rich pallet of velvet greens and dotted with eccentric historic structures. It is the county that inspired Lewis Carroll after all.

I tend to be a highly eclectic photographer and subjects and themes are varied, though there is always a sense of deep study and intensity to my work. I also spend a lot of time working on commercial projects and portraits. I am particularly keen on music related subjects, especially as contemporary jazz is my other great passion in life.

Oliver Wood has uploaded White Nancy

The White Nancy monument or folly on top of Kerridge Hill in Bollington, Cheshire is a local landmark of the town. This year it has been painted with a large number 50 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Bollington Arts Festival which starts at the end of May.

Heavy snow in January 2011, it was a very white winter. The large amount of virgin snow in the foreground inspired me to try this very unorthodox composition and I love the way it has worked. St Peters, Prestbury is one of the oldest parish churches in Cheshire and one of the most notable Norman style churches in the north west.

Oliver Wood has uploaded Winter Oak

An orton processed shot of snowy conditions in Prestbury, Cheshire during the cold but picturesque winter of 2010. I love this pallet of blues, amber and whites. It was a perfectly lit scene. I have applied an orton process mainly to create an enhanced quality of 'magic' and ti impart a dreamy mood. I like the way that orton processing seems to make colours slightly richer but in a subtle way.

The Cage in Lyme Park, Cheshire - portrait. A notable Cheshire landmark or 'folly' that was once a hunting lodge for the nearby Lyme Hall and also used as a prison for illegal poachers, hence 'The Cage'. It is in a very moody and highly exposed setting that commands magnificent views across much of Cheshire and the foothills of Derbyshire to the east.

Loose abstraction found in the copper and stone of the nine hundred-year-old St Peters Church tower in the village of Prestbury, Cheshire.

Oliver Wood has uploaded Storm Field

Moody weather in Cheshire during the bailing, grass cutting season. I just had to get this picture, as the light seemed so intriguing and I was struck by the way it played with the colour or the essential green theme of the image. I like this kind of mood, the air was fresh but breezy, rich with the scent of cut grass and the sense of the approaching storm was very exciting. I almost managed to get home before the heavy drenching downpour started.
