Simen Oestmo

Forever young Norwegian living in Sunny California. An adventurous, smiling, and blue eyed Viking that loves life. I have Ph.D. in Anthropology from the Institute of Human Origins, School of Human Evolution and Social Change, Arizona State University. I love photography but I don't have a degree in it or have taken any photo courses. But my travels takes me to some pretty awesome places so I try to bring my camera and take some snapshots of the scenery as it flies by.

My preferred method is paperwork. I’m creating collages by using different kinds of illustrations, such as newspaper, books or calendars. For this handcraft I need good scissors and glue. I’m not using digital processing in my works.

My source of inspiration is life itself. Every encounter means inspiration. To express the vital forces is my intention.

When I start a new work, there is nothing I’m thinking of, no idea. It’s a flow. My intuition is leading me.

When the work is finished, I’m always surprised of the result. It’s a journey.

Thorstein Berg. Fine Art outdoor photographer from Stavanger, Norway.

I've been photographing since 2003, first with analog equipment, mainly Mamiya MSX 500 and Nikon F90x as my main cameras. Went fully digital in 2010 after a break from photography for about 2 years.
Before my break I mainly focused on consertphotography, but after the turn to fully digital, my focus shifted to outdoor photography, with focus on the norwegian landscape.
As my base is Stavanger in the district of Jæren in Rogaland, I use this area as my main subject for my photography.

My camerabag is mainly packed up with this gear:
-Nikon D200
-Nikon D70 (back-up body)
-Tamron SP 17-50mm f2.8
-Tamron SP 28-75mm f2.8
-Tamron SP 70-200mm f2.8
-Nikon AF 50 f1.8 D
-Formatt Hitech 85mm and 100mm ND-grad and standar ND
-Kenko U/V and circular polarizer
