„Blossoms at Dusk“

from the gallery of Clare Bevan
Description:

Apricot blossom refers to the flowers of the Prunus armeniaca tree. Blossoms arrive early and are typically white or pale pink, with a pleasant fragrance.

Apricot blossoms are the edible flowers of the Prunus Armeniaca tree. The Apricot blossoms precede the small, peachy-orange fruit that develops over the summer months. Apricots are members of the Rosaceae family.

Apricot blossoms have five bright white petals that can sometimes be tinged with pink. From the center of the blossom multiple stamens grow tipped with yellow pollen. The edible blossoms have a mild apricot flavor with a sweet floral aroma.

Apricot blossoms can be used as garnish on any number of savory or sweet dishes. Add to salads or top panna cotta or creme brulee. Add Apricot blossoms to cocktails made with apricots.

Apricot trees are native to northern China, specifically the Himalayan region and other temperate areas. Apricots made their way from China to Italy and from there to England during the reign of Henry VIII. Apricot blossoms symbolize timid love and can be given as a gift from an admirer.
