„2926 Steam“

from the gallery of Terry Mulcahy
Description:

This is Atchison Topeka & Santa Fe number 2926. This million-ton train was built and put in service in 1944. It burned oil to create steam. It had a short life. After the war ended, all railroads had switched to diesel fuel, which had been reserved only for war efforts. After being on display in a local park, suffering extreme vandalism and theft, it is now refurbished and ready to return to use. Some new track has been laid, and it will rest at the old Railyard in downtown Albuquerque in between trips around the state.
