from the gallery of Danita Delimont
Description:

The Elephant is the largest living land animal on Earth today
There are basically two species, the African Elephant and the Asian Elephant with the African being slightly larger
The African Elephant (Loxodonta africana) is again split into two sub-species, the African Bush Elephant and the African Forest Elephant
This species is the African Bush Elephant and both the male and female normally have tusks and have no natural predators, but are threatened by man's intrusion and poaching for ivory
They are found throughout Africa, but mainly in the East and South of the continent
