The impasto style of laying on colors one by one lends texture and depth to the overall effect of the piece. The background was created using oil paints. Once the background dried (for several months), the blues and purples of the back lighting were added. The red and yellow flames were laid on with palette knife using acrylic paint. The result is a painting with depth and intensity.
