from the gallery of RicardMN Photography
Description:

Jack Kerouac Alley (formerly Adler Alley or Adler Place) is a one-way alleyway in Chinatown, San Francisco, California, that connects Grant Avenue and Columbus Avenue.

The alley is named after Jack Kerouac, a Beat Generation writer who used to hang in the Vesuvio pub and bookstore, (City Lights Bookstore, owned by Lawrence Ferlinghetti) adjacent to the alley..The alley is now known for its engraved Western and Chinese poems, including poets such as John Steinbeck, Maya Angelou, and Kerouac himself.
A ceremony was held in April 2007 to celebrate the reopening of the alley..A 4-weeks road trip across the USA, from New York to San Francisco, on the steps of Jack Kerouac's famous book 'On the Road'. Focusing on nomadic America: people that live on the move across the US, out of ideology or for work reasons.
