Auf der Bootsreise von Bagan nach Mandalay zeigt sich der Fluss in vielerlei Gestalt und es begegnen uns Schiffe aller Art: Fischerboote, Transportkähne mit Schleppschiffen (Kohle, Schrott), Boote mit schrägen Holzaufbauten, mit denen man im abfließenden Wasser Goldstaub einzufangen sucht.
