„Now that's what I call a sleep!/ Nun, das ist was ich einen Schlaf nennen!“

from the gallery of mbk-wildlife-photography
Description:

Here is William, my pet Mediterranean Spur Thighed Tortoise (Testudo graeca), freshly emerged from a winter's hibernation under the soil of his pen. This photograph was taken before his bath and shows much of the soil still clinging onto him If you look closely you will see small patches of yellow lichen too!
An unusual sight is the purple and green traces, known as reptilian iridescence, only visible with bright light at certain angles. William is a mere youngster at 12 years old and these charming fellows can live over 100 years. as always it was a huge relief to find him safely awake after hibernation, so welcome back William.....we missed you :0
