This painting is of the Championship Course and includes the 9th fairway and green as well as a view of the 1st fairway on the left of the painting. Part of the clubhouse can be seen on the right and the Slieve Donard Hotel is located beyond the first tee.
The Royal County Down Golf Club is a golf club in Northern Ireland, located in Newcastle, County Down. It opened 126 years ago 23 March 1889 and is one of the oldest golf clubs in Ireland. It has two 18-hole links courses, the Championship Course and the Annesley Links. Rory McIlroy named Royal County Down his favourite golf course in the world.
The course hosted The Irish Open in 1928, 1935 and recently in May 2015. The many other competitions hosted are Senior British Open Championship/The Amateur Championship/British Ladies Amateur Golf Championship/Curtis Cup/Walker Cup and Palmer Cup.
