„Sandhill Cranes in Flight“

from the gallery of Pat Goltz
Description:

Up to 30,000 Sandhill Cranes winter and breed in extreme southeastern Arizona every year. I caught these at the Apache Station Wildlife Area, west of Willcox, Arizona, USA. Seeing large numbers of these birds, which are up to three feet tall, is an awesome sight. They begin to fly in for the night about 3:30 in the afternoon, and come in, in groups of up to 200.

Grus canadensis.
