„Boathouses At Henley on Thames“

from the gallery of Ian Lewis
Description:

Looking across the River Thames to Henley in Oxfordshire. Here we can see the boathouses with their balconies and outside staircases just downstream from the town's bridge. Behind can be seen the towers of the old brewery - still in operation but not in Henley any more! The stretch of river here is most famous for the annual Henley Royal Regatta run since 1839 for 1 mile 55o yds from Temple Island almost to this spot! It gained 'Royal' status when Prince Albert became patron in 1851.
