I photographed this pair of Gentoo Penguins on the Antarctic Peninsula. They were on the snowy landscape of a research station, waiting patiently for the snow to melt so that they could establish a nest.

We humans love to attribute human characteristics to animals; scientists might scoff at this, but many species share the human emotions of love, companionship, and friendship. This photograph shows that wild connection to us.
