„Jamestown The First Permanent Settlement“

from the gallery of John Bailey
Description:

This is a photographic artwork of the first permanent English colony in America, Jamestown, established in 1607. The rectangular dig is the site of the original church, made from wood. The cleared dirt area in front of the sandbags, with marker flags, is the altar area of the church and is the spot Pocahontas and John Rolfe stood during their marriage ceremony. In the mid-1600's the brick church was built. It is one of the oldest English built structures in the United States.
