Batemans Tower at sunset, looking towards Mersea Island.

The tower was built by John Bateman in 1883 as a folly for his daughter to recuperate from consumption. A restoration project took place in 2005 which was funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, restoring the tower to its original condition, including the fitting of a replica of the original roof.
