If you live anywhere near the coast in Britain then you will be familiar with the Herring Gull. The large, noisy birds are scavengers, and seen by many as pests. A lot of people would be surprised to learn that their numbers have declined steeply over the last 25 years, and that they are considered a threatened species. Love them or hate them, they are undeniably striking birds.
