„Perfect camouflage, perfekte Tarnung“

Here we have the Buff tip moth, Phalera bucephala, a remarkable moth seen in my Garden in Sissinghurst, Kent, England.
When this moth rests on a birch tree (the caterpillars' food plant) it is virtually indistinguishable from a snapped birch twig. The wings curve around the body to create the rounded shape of a twig, the mottled grey of these wing is identical in colour and texture to the bark and the head seen at the front and the white markings of the wing tips at the rear perfectly mirror the colours of a broken twig. Coupled with their behaviour of remaining absolutely motionless even when touched, I would imagine that not many fall prey to hungry birds :0)
