„Kaokoland, Namibia (Nigel Pavitt)“

from the gallery of John Warburton-Lee Photography

Two happy Himba girls ride a donkey to market. Their bodies gleam from a mixture of red ochre, butterfat and herbs. Their long hair is styled in the traditional Himba way and is crowned with a headdress made of lambskin, called erembe. Their garments are also made of leather. The Himba are Herero-speaking Bantu nomads who live in the harsh, dry but starkly beautiful landscape of remote northwest Namibia.
