Bison often roll in the dust or sand to clean fur and remove parasites. This behavior is called 'dust bathing.' The laid back behavior often seen with Bison is very misleading. Per Wikipedia Bison temperament is often unpredictable. They usually appear peaceful, unconcerned, even lazy, yet they may attack anything, often without warning or apparent reason. They can move at speeds up to 35 mph (56 km/h) and cover long distances at a lumbering gallop. Custer State Park in South Dakota is one of the many places across the country that have helped the American Bison make a comeback.
