Oare Marshes is an important Wetlands reserve near Faversham, Kent, England. I adore the charming, docile and beautiful Highland cattle are allowed to roam free here and are important to the fragile ecosystem of the marshes. They are originally from the highland regions of Scotland and have this distinctive shaggy coat to protect them from the cold and wet winters of their original homeland. As you can see in this shot, the hair often obscures the eyes. They were originally bred from two sets of stock, one black and the other reddish, and, while a variety of colors exist in today's cattle, the predominant colors are black or red as seen in this handsome creature.
