The stereopticon was to be found in nearly every middle and upper class parlor of the nineteenth century. The most popular stereoscope slides were travel type slides that showed many places around the world such as the pyramids of Egypt or the sights of New York, Chicago and San Francisco. Because of their popularity, it is not surprising that general stores had them for sale.
