„Towed in Margaritaville“

This is an October 1995 photograph of a GMC Vandura G25 van being prepared to be towed by the New Orleans Street Department in front of Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville Store at 1 French Market Place near the corner of Decatur Street and Ursulines Street in the French Quarters of New Orleans, Louisiana, USA. Visible in the photo are two New Orleans Street Department workers, one leaning into the van with only lower legs and feet visible and the other in the right center foreground of the image. Visible in the background is the sign indicating this is Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville Store. Visible on the left is an American flag and on the right the Louisiana state flag with a mother pelican with three baby pelicans in a nest. As a long-time fan of Jimmy Buffett's music and articulated carefree philosophy of life, it struck me as ironic a van was being towed in front of Margaritaville. The van appears to be old and well-worn with damage in the area of the right headlight and duck tape on the side vent window on the passenger front door. Thus, perhaps the van deserved to be towed. Regardless, friends often have teased me that some day this image will be the cover photo for Jimmy Buffett's hypothetical "Towed in Margaritaville" album.
