This is the large gold Buddah statue at the entrance to the cave temples of Dambulla, Sri Lanka. Located in the centre of the country, it is a UNESCO World Hertiage listed site.Consisting of five main caves, buried into the side of an overhanging rock.
The inside of these caves are painted with religious imagery of Lord Buddah and several Hindu gods as well as Sri Lankan kings.
The main cave contains a well that is full to the brim with water. A steady flow of water travels against gravity up the cave wall and drips into the well in the centre. The well never overflows, nor does it empty. No matter what your religious convictions are, it is an amazing place to visit.
I found it interesting that the peeling paint on the inside of the palm looks very much like a heart.
