„National Geographic: Grand Canal, Venice, Italy.“

Picture ID: 69a637f
Description:

The Grand Canal of Venice is congested by various types of boats. The blue wat er is walled on ei- ther side by palazzos, most of which were built during the 14th-18th centuries. Gondolas are poled along the canal toward the Ponte Rialt o, a covered bridge constructed in 1588-92, and known more for its strength than its beauty. Wakes, created by motorized ferries, become a hazard for the unwary gondolier . Copyright: National Geographic / James L. Stanfield
